In Gentle Teaching, as well as in other support and treatment models and approaches, the (therapeutic) relationship is primordial when caring for and supporting persons in vulnerable situations.
Therapeutic alliance and responsivity are crucial in establishing a safe living climate and opportunies to grow. According to the important role of relationships between clients and their social network, support staff, and the larger environment, “compassion” is incorporated as an alternative to the reactive and restrictive practices that used to be (and still are) commonplace in working with persons with complex needs. In Gentle Teaching, the central purpose is to nurture, teach, and sustain a sense of companionship, connectedness, and community in support and care.

We would like to invite researchers and practitioners to present clinical experiences, support methods, and research findings and views on the role of relationship in the broad field of support and care.
We welcome philosophical, theoretical, practical (case studies, vignettes, practice descriptions, …), and empirical (quantitative, qualitative and mixed method research) contributions. The organizing committee for the 2019 International Gentle Teaching Conference is pleased to invite abstract proposals for oral presentations and interactive poster presentations.

Workshops (1 hour), oral presentations (15 min.) and poster submissions should include the following:

  • Title of presentation
  • Author(s) and author(s)’ affiliation(s)
  • Abstract (max. 250 words)
  • Corresponding author contact details

The conference (plenary sessions and the majority of the workshops and sessions) will be held in English. A number of sessions and workshops will be held in Dutch.

In function of the program, we would like the author(s) to indicate in which track the abstract could be situated (most):

  1. Philosophical track
  2. Theoretical track
  3. Practice-based track (case studies, vignettes, practice descriptions, …)
  4. Empirical track (quantitative, qualitative and mixed method research)

Abstract submissions are now open: https://gti2019.be/index.php/submission-form/.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee.

Authors will be notified about acceptance of the paper by 15 May 2019.
